IFT Expo's functional offerings are here
Jul 27, 2007

It's official! The IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo is right around the corner! Running from Saturday July 28th through to Wednesday August 1st in Chicago, the Institute of Food Technologists' event, this year dubbed "Food Smarts", will draw attendees and exhibitors from around the world.

Despite the fact this has traditionally been an event for the mainstream food industry, the advent of functional foods is bridging this gap and thereby attracting the manufacturers of nutraceutical ingredients as well.

Like a grain of sand on a beach, this is a just tiny sample of what to expect amidst some of the growing functional food offerings at the mammoth show about to descend on Chicago:

-Shuster Laboratories will present a seminar on its Global Sourcing Quality Management program, designed to help dietary supplement manufacturers instil consumer confidence in the sourcing of their ingredients. The seminar will show companies how to identify possible risks in their supply chain, implement a traceability program and evaluate options for finished product testing.

-Solbar will be featuring its latest developments in isolated soy proteins and functional protein concentrates. The manufacturer says one of its focuses is on the growing health and wellness segment.

-LycoRed will launch its Lyc-O-Mato self-dried cherry tomatoes which are developed especially for high-lycopene. According to the Israeli firm, each Lyc-O-Mato cherry tomato ingredient provides more than 1mg of the powerful antioxidant lycopene, and as such it would take only five to provide the 5mg lycopene/serving recommended for the fortification of conventional foods.
